Steps to follow if DIY painting

#1 Choose paint and paint finish

(matte, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss, gloss)

** GET SWATCHES and SAMPLES**

#2 Prep space

Move furniture or cover with plastic or drop cloths

Remove light switch plates, outlet covers and wall decor

*use electric safe screwdriver

Protect floors (drop cloth or plastic)

#3 Clean and repair walls

Wipes walls with damp cloth to remove dust

Fill holes or cracks with spackle. Let dry then sand and smooth.

#4 Tape and Trim

Apply painters tape along edges: base boards, windows and

ceilings.

** press down well to avoid bleed through**

#5 Prime (if needed)

If painting over dark colors, stains or going from glossy to matte

you will need to primer over the area before you paint.

*use a roller for big areas and a brush for edges and corners.

#6 Paint

First, use a paint brush along edges and corners.

Then use a roller in a “W” pattern to fill large areas evenly.

Apply 2 coats for best coverage, but wait until the first coat has fully

dried.

#7 Clean up and Touch up.

Remove tape before paint is fully dry to avoid peeling.

Clean brushes and roller immediately.

Touch up any missed spots or imperfections.
