Paint Sheen: Coloring a HappyHome

Here are a few things to consider when picking paint sheen.

Matte (flat)

Look: No shine, very smooth

Best for: Ceilings, low traffic walls, hiding imperfections

Downside: Hardest to clean

Eggshell

Look: Soft low sheen

Best: Living room, dining room and bedroom

Downside: Somewhat difficult to clean, better than matte

Satin

Look: Smooth with a velvety sheen

Best: High traffic areas (hallways, kid’s room, kitchen)

Downside: Shows imperfections

Semi-gloss

Look: Noticeable shine, reflective

Best: Trim, doors, bathrooms, kitchen (easy to clean)

Downside: Highlights wall flaws

Gloss (high gloss)

Look: Super shiny (glass-like)

Best: Cabinets, furniture, accents

Downside: Every dent or bump will show

Quick Tip:The higher the sheen the more durable and wipeable it is.The lower the sheen, the better it hides flaws.
